| The Music Department consists of three separate levels of learning. In elementary band
students learn how to count music, name notes and play recorders and either
cornets or clarinets. In middle school band the students get to choose an
instrument, students who played the cornet can pick trumpet, trombone, baritone
or tuba and students who played clarinet can pick clarinet, flute, oboe, alto
saxophone, tenor saxophone or baritone saxophone. In high school band the
students expand on their playing abilities by playing more advanced music and
marching at football games and parades. The music teacher at Forest Park in
Mr. Vanaman. He teaches students in kindergarten to 12th grade.
Forest Park is one of the few schools in the area that owns the instruments
the students play on. In other schools students either have to buy their own
instruments or rent them.
The Band Boosters is very important to the band. They hold two fundraisers a
year, a chocolate sale and a fruit sale. They help the band buy uniforms and
cover costs to travel to football playoff games and to Appleton for the
Performing Arts Trip. The Band Boosters also supplies lunch money for students
who attend Honors Band or Solo Ensemble.
Band Boosters Mission Statement: To enhance and support the students'
activities in the Forest Park Music Programs.
