Internet Safety

Internet Safety:

Take a guided tour
Invite your child to show you around the places she likes to visit online. Most kids love to show their parents around new places – even virtual ones!

Play a game
Ask your child to teach you an online game, and then challenge him to a match. You will be amazed by the skill you will need
to keep up with your child.

Go Searching
Conduct an online scavenger hunt (a phone of an orange cat; a recipe for chocolate chip muffins; an online metric calculator,
the distances between the sun and Earth) Use a kid-friendly search engine like OneKey (www.onekey.com) or Yahoo Kids
(www.yahookids.com)

Travel the globe
Challenge your child to find locations on a map. Younger children enjoy finding famous landmarks. Older children will enjoy
the challenge of navigating satellite images of the earth.

Watch videos together
Go on a video-sharing site and ask your child to show you clips of his favorite performing artists. You may even find that you like one another’s music!

OUR INTERNET SAFETY HOUSE RULES

  • Never write your address or phone number online, or give out any information that identifies you.
  • Never give out your passwords, even to friends.
  • Treat others with respect online, as you would in person.
  • Remember that nothing you do on the Internet is private; don’t say or do anything you wouldn’t want others
    to know about.
  • Never open an e-mail or click on a link from someone you don’t know.
  • I will get up from the computer right away and tell my parents or another trusted adult if I see something
that scares me or makes me feel uncomfortable.
  • I will never post my picture or a video of myself online without permission.
  • I will never lie about my age online.
  • Any other rules that your family would like to add.
