High School Student of the Week

Hannah is a senior at Forest Park High School. She is the daughter of Shelly and the late Steve “Kookeye” of Crystal Falls. Hannah enjoys reading and spending time with her best friend “Bitsy”.

Hannah is actively involved in Student Council, Business Professionals of America, National Honor Society and Youth Advisory Committee (President). She is also the statistician for the Basketball and Volleyball teams, where her attention to detail is invaluable.

Hannah is a wonderful person with a big heart. She willingly helps others and can always be counted on. Hannah spends part of her day in the CI program at Forest Park working with students, something she thoroughly enjoys.

Hannah has chosen to begin her post-secondary education by taking college courses this year. In the fall she will attend Central Michigan University where she will major in Occupational Therapy.

Local Robotics Teams Compete in Oconto Falls, WI

On January  18, 2014 the Dickinson/Iron County robotics teams competed in Oconto Falls, WI.  A total of forty (40) teams participated in the Northeast Wisconsin VEX Robotics Challenge.  From our local area, there were five teams that competed.  The teams did very well, earning four of the eight special awards from the judges.

All the teams from our area combined to win the Sportsmanship Award ( see picture above).  The judges congratulated the teams on working together and being helpful to other teams.   Randy Vandenheuvel, robotics coach, along with volunteers Kevin Hanson, Jen Toivonen and Lisa Olson expressed their pride in the fact that by winning the sportsmanship award the students were exhibiting strong character and their ability to work well with others.  Individual awards went to Marco Koerschner for overall quality, Amaze Award; Josh Hanson for autonomous programming and sensors, Think Award; and Laina Toivonen and Sydney Toivonen, team spirit and enthusiasm, Energy Award.
