Music Boosters:
The mission of the Music Boosters is to assist the
Music Department by helping at special events and also
to assist with fund raising. Money raised is
used for such items as uniforms, including shoes for
every student in grades 7-12, and other miscellaneous
supplies used in marching band. In addition, the
Boosters has purchased instruments, music and provides
meal allowances when students attend solo and ensemble
festival, band and orchestra festival and football
playoff games. Money is also donated to support
music education by contributing to the Second Sunday
Concert Series performances at Forest Park.
There are also musical performances outside of the
area that are coordinated and sponsored by the FP
Music Boosters. Beginning with the Class of
2008, there is a Senior Band Participation Scholarship
funded by the Music Boosters. This scholarship
is available to graduation band seniors who have
participated fully during their four years of high
school.
An extra, very large expense this year that the
Boosters will begin raising funds for is new uniforms
for the Senior High Band. The current uniforms
are over 20 years old and there are fewer and fewer
uniforms that are in good enough condition to alter
and repair. Because of this large financial
outlay, it will be even more important that band
students and their parents become active in the fund
raising events.
All Jr. High and Sr. High Music Department families
will be receiving a Time and Talent Sheet during the
next month. There will be specific tasks listed
that you can sign up to help with. Please
consider volunteering your time and keep our Music
Department running strong.
The Boosters is always looking for new members to
help with their activities. If you are a parent
of a band student of any age, and are interested in
joining the Boosters but are unable to attend this
meeting, please phone Sharon Nickels at 875-6098 or
email at snickels@up.net.

Band:
There has been Band at Forest Park for many years and has brought great joy to many who get to see the band perform at football games, basketball games, concerts and other band activities. Band consists of two main seasons: marching band and concert band. Marching Band is during the football season and concert band is during football's off season. Jazz band plays during the basketball season. Forest Park Band starts with elementary learning small things about band and music. Then there is a sixth grade Band, Junior High Band and a Senior High School Band. The Bands are taught and directed by Norm Vanaman.
The Forest Park High School has Marching and Concert Band. Forest Park allows its students to use school owned instruments for free. Forest Park is one of the few schools that does not force their students to rent or purchase instruments in order to participate. This encourages music to all students and allows any student to participate.
The FP Marching Band performs at every FP home football game. They also follow the team all through playoffs wherever the game takes place. The Marching Band has made many trips to the Superior Dome in Marquette, Michigan, and to Lower Michigans Pontiac Silver Dome and Ford Field over the years. The marching band also makes many appearances at summer parades and programs.
The Forest Park High School Concert Band is also very successful. They perform at the Annual Band Festival in Marquette, Michigan every year and do very well. There is also an Annual Spring Concert which showcases the High School Concert Band, Middle School Band, and the 6th Grade band.
The High School Music Department also supports a Jazz Band. The FP Jazz Band plays at boy's and girl's basketball home games and also performs at the Annual Musical Tea during the Christmas season.
